Глава 18

1 И осмотрел Давид людей, которые были с ним, и поставил над ними тысячников и сотников.

2 И отпустил Давид народ третью часть под начальством Иоава, и третью часть под начальством Авишая, сына Церуии, брата Иоавова, и третью часть под начальством Ифая Гефянина, и сказал царь народу; и я также пойду с вами.

3 Но народ сказал: не ходи: поелику если мы обратимся в бегство, то на нас не обратят внимания; и если половина из нас умрет, не обратят внимания, потому что таких, как мы, десять тысяч. Итак лучше тебе подавать нам помощь из города.

4 И сказал им царь: что угодно вам, то и сделаю. И остался царь у ворот, а весь народ пошел сотнями и тысячами.

5 И приказал царь Иоаву и Авишаю и Ифаю, и говорил: потише у меня с отроком Авессаломом; и весь народ слышал, когда царь давал приказание всем вождям об Авессаломе.

6 И выступал народ в поле против Израиля, и произошло сражение в лесу Ефремовом.

7 И поражен там народ Израильский от рабов Давида, и было там поражение великое в тот день до двадцати тысяч мужей.

8 И распространилась там битва по всей той земле, и лес истребил народа более, нежели сколько истребил меч в тот день.

9 И встретился Авессалом с рабом Давидовым. Авессалом ехал на лошаке. И вошел лошак под густые ветви большого терпентина, и зацепились волоса головы его за терпентин, и он остался между небом и землею; а лошак, бывший под ним, пошел.

10 И увидел один человек, и известил Иоава, и сказал: вот я видел Авессалома, повисшего на терпентине.

11 Иоав же сказал человеку, известившему его: вот, ты видел? почему же ты не поверг его там на землю? и я бы дал тебе десять сиклей серебра и пояс.

12 Но человек тот сказал Иоаву: если бы я получил в руки тысячу сиклей серебра, то не простер бы руки своей на сына царева, ибо при нас приказывал царь тебе и Авишаю и Ифаю, и говорил: сберегите мне отрока Авессалома.

13 Иначе если бы я поступил коварно с опасностью жизни моей, то все сие дело не утаилось бы от царя, и ты же восстал бы против меня.

14 Но Иоав сказал: а я так не буду медлить пред тобою, и взял три копья в руку свою и вонзил их в сердце Авессалома, когда он еще был жив на терпентине.

15 Потом окружили десять отроков, оруженосцев Иоавовых, и поразили Авессалома, и умертвили его.

16 И вострубил Иоав трубою, и народ возвратился от преследования Израиля: потому что Иоав остановил народ.

17 И взяли Авессалома, и бросили его в лесу в большой ров, и поставили над ним весьма большую груду камней; а Израильтяне все убежали, каждый в свой шатер.

18 Авессалом же взял и поставил себе еще при жизни своей столп, который на долине царской, потому что, говорил он, нет у меня сына, чтобы оставить память имени моего. И назвал он сей столп своим именем, и называется он памятником Авессаломовым до сего дня.

19 Ахимаац, сын Цадоков, сказал: побегу я и извещу царя, что Господь защитил его от руки врагов его.

20 Но Иоав сказал ему: ты сегодня не благовестник: понесешь весть на другой день, сегодня же не принесешь радостного известия, потому что сын царя умер.

21 И сказал Иоав Хусию: пойди и донеси царю, что ты видел, и поклонился Хусий Иоаву, и побежал.

22 Ахимаац же, сын Цадоков, опять сказал Иоаву: что ни будет, побегу и я за Хусием! Но Иоав сказал: для чего тебе бежать, сын мой? У тебя нет доброй вести, от которой бы вестник получил пользу.

23 Что ни будет, побегу! И сказал ему Иоав: беги. И побежал Ахимаац равниною, и опередил Хусия.

24 Давид же сидел между двумя воротами: и пошел сторож на кровлю ворот на стену, и взглянул и увидел, вот, бежит человек один.

25 И закричал сторож, и возвестил царю; и сказал царь: если один, то весть во устах его. Между тем как сей подходил ближе и ближе.

26 И увидел сторож другого человека бегущего, и закричал сторож к привратнику, и сказал: вот еще бежит один человек; и сказал царь: и это вестник.

27 И сказал сторож: я вижу, что первый бежит, как бегает Ахимаац, сын Цадоков; царь сказал на сие: он человек добрый, верно с добрым известием идет.

28 И закричал Ахимаац, и сказал царю: мир! и поклонился царю лицем своим до земли, и сказал: благословен Господь, Бог твой, Который предал людей, подъявших руки свои на господина моего царя.

29 И сказал царь: благополучен ли отрок Авессалом? Я видел великое множество веселящихся, когда раб царев Иоав отпускал раба твоего, но не знаю, что там.

30 И сказал царь: отойди и постой здесь; он отошел в сторону и стоял.

31 И вот пришел Хусий, и сказал Хусий: прими радостную весть, господин мой, царь, что защитил тебя Господь ныне от руки всех восставших против тебя.

32 И сказал царь Хусию: благополучен ли отрок Авессалом? и сказал Хусий: да будет с врагами, господина моего, царя, и со всеми, которые восстают против тебя, подобное зло, какое постигло отрока.

33 Тогда возмутился царь, и взошел на горницу, что над воротами, и плакал, и так говорил, идя: сын мой, Авессалом? сын мой, сын мой Авессалом! О, если бы я умер вместо тебя, Авессалом, сын мой, сын мой!

2 Samuel

Chapter 18

1 AND David numbered the people who were with him, and set over them commanders of thousands and captains of hundreds.

2 And David placed a third part of the people under the command of Joab, and a third part under the command of Abishai the son of Zoriah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the command of Ittai the Gittite.

3 And the king said to the people, If we surely should flee, the enemy will not care about us; now therefore ten thousand men are enough for us; for it is better for us to receive help from the cities.

4 And the servants of David said to him, We will go forth quickly to fight against them. And the king said to them, Whatever seems good to you, do it. Then the king stood by the side of the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.

5 And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Capture for me the young man Absalom alive. And all the people heard when the king gave orders to all commanders concerning Absalom.

6 So the people went out into the field against Israel;

7 And there was a battle, and the people of Israel were defeated there before the servants of David, and there was a great slaughter on that day of twenty thousand men.

8 For there was a great battle which spread over the face of the country; and the wild beasts of the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

9 And it happened that Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom was riding upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and Absalom's head caught fast in the great oak, and he was hanging between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.

10 And a certain man saw it and told Joab and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.

11 And Joab said to the man who told him, When you saw him, why then did you not smite him there and throw him to the ground? And I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a garment.

12 And the man said to Joab, Though you should count to me a thousand shekels of silver, I would not put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Be careful not to harm the young man Absalom for my sake.

13 And if I should have done it, then I would have been guilty; and nothing would have been hidden from the king, and you yourself would have stood against me.

14 Then Joab said to him, That is not true, I will do it now myself. Then Joab took three darts in his hand and thrust them through the heart of Absalom while he was still alive and hanging from the oak.

15 And ten young men who bore Joab's armor circled about and smote Absalom and slew him.

16 And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel; for Joab had held back the people.

17 And they took Absalom's body and cast it into a great pit, and raised over it a great heap of large stones; and all Israel fled every man to his tent.

18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up for himself a monument in the valley of the kings; for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance; and he called the monument by his own name; and it is called the work of Absalom to this day.

19 Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run and bring the good tidings to the king, how the LORD has avenged him of his enemies.

20 And Joab said to him, It is not proper that you bear tidings this day, but you may bear tidings another day; this day you shall bear no tidings because the king's son is dead.

21 Then Joab said to Cushi, Go tell the king what you have seen; and he ran.

22 Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said again to Joab, Why should not I too run after Cushi? And Joab said to him, Why will you run, my son, seeing no one will give you a reward for the tidings?

23 He said to him, What is the difference? Let me run. And he said to him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and passed Cushi.

24 Now David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate to the wall, and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw a man running alone.

25 And the watchman called out and told the king. And the king said, if he is alone, there are tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.

26 And the watchman drew near toward the gate, and said, Behold, another man is running alone;

27 Moreover the watchman said, I see the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said. He is a good man and comes with good tidings.

28 And the king called to Ahimaaz, and said to him, Have you come in peace? And he bowed before the king with his face to the earth, and said, Blessed be the LORD your God, who delivered up the men who lifted their hands against my lord the king.

29 Then the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, I saw a great army arrayed against Joab the servant of my lord the king, but I your servant knew not what was the outcome.

30 And the king said to him, Turn aside and stand here. And he turned aside and stood still.

31 And, behold, Cushi came; and he said, Tidings, my lord the king! for the LORD has avenged you this day from the hand of all those who rose up against you.

32 And the king said to Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, Let your enemies, my lord the king, and all who rise up against you for evil be as that young man is.

33 And the king was overcome, and went up to his bedchamber and wept; and as he wept, he said, O my son Absalom. my son, my son Absalom! Would that I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son!

7 И поражен там народ Израильский от рабов Давида, и было там поражение великое в тот день до двадцати тысяч мужей.	7 And there was a battle, and the people of Israel were defeated there before the servants of David, and there was a great slaughter on that day of twenty thousand men.
8 И распространилась там битва по всей той земле, и лес истребил народа более, нежели сколько истребил меч в тот день.	8 For there was a great battle which spread over the face of the country; and the wild beasts of the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
9 И встретился Авессалом с рабом Давидовым. Авессалом ехал на лошаке. И вошел лошак под густые ветви большого терпентина, и зацепились волоса головы его за терпентин, и он остался между небом и землею; а лошак, бывший под ним, пошел.	9 And it happened that Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom was riding upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and Absalom's head caught fast in the great oak, and he was hanging between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.
10 И увидел один человек, и известил Иоава, и сказал: вот я видел Авессалома, повисшего на терпентине.	10 And a certain man saw it and told Joab and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.
11 Иоав же сказал человеку, известившему его: вот, ты видел? почему же ты не поверг его там на землю? и я бы дал тебе десять сиклей серебра и пояс.	11 And Joab said to the man who told him, When you saw him, why then did you not smite him there and throw him to the ground? And I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a garment.
12 Но человек тот сказал Иоаву: если бы я получил в руки тысячу сиклей серебра, то не простер бы руки своей на сына царева, ибо при нас приказывал царь тебе и Авишаю и Ифаю, и говорил: сберегите мне отрока Авессалома.	12 And the man said to Joab, Though you should count to me a thousand shekels of silver, I would not put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Be careful not to harm the young man Absalom for my sake.
13 Иначе если бы я поступил коварно с опасностью жизни моей, то все сие дело не утаилось бы от царя, и ты же восстал бы против меня.	13 And if I should have done it, then I would have been guilty; and nothing would have been hidden from the king, and you yourself would have stood against me.
14 Но Иоав сказал: а я так не буду медлить пред тобою, и взял три копья в руку свою и вонзил их в сердце Авессалома, когда он еще был жив на терпентине.	14 Then Joab said to him, That is not true, I will do it now myself. Then Joab took three darts in his hand and thrust them through the heart of Absalom while he was still alive and hanging from the oak.
15 Потом окружили десять отроков, оруженосцев Иоавовых, и поразили Авессалома, и умертвили его.	15 And ten young men who bore Joab's armor circled about and smote Absalom and slew him.
16 И вострубил Иоав трубою, и народ возвратился от преследования Израиля: потому что Иоав остановил народ.	16 And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel; for Joab had held back the people.
17 И взяли Авессалома, и бросили его в лесу в большой ров, и поставили над ним весьма большую груду камней; а Израильтяне все убежали, каждый в свой шатер.	17 And they took Absalom's body and cast it into a great pit, and raised over it a great heap of large stones; and all Israel fled every man to his tent.
18 Авессалом же взял и поставил себе еще при жизни своей столп, который на долине царской, потому что, говорил он, нет у меня сына, чтобы оставить память имени моего. 21 И сказал Иоав Хусию: пойди и донеси царю, что ты видел, и поклонился Хусий Иоаву, и побежал.	21 Then Joab said to Cushi, Go tell the king what you have seen; and he ran.
22 Ахимаац же, сын Цадоков, опять сказал Иоаву: что ни будет, побегу и я за Хусием! Но Иоав сказал: для чего тебе бежать, сын мой? У тебя нет доброй вести, от которой бы вестник получил пользу.	22 Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said again to Joab, Why should not I too run after Cushi? And Joab said to him, Why will you run, my son, seeing no one will give you a reward for the tidings?

27 И сказал сторож: я вижу, что первый бежит, как бегает Ахимаац, сын Цадоков; царь сказал на сие: он человек добрый, верно с добрым известием идет.	27 Moreover the watchman said, I see the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said. He is a good man and comes with good tidings.
28 И закричал Ахимаац, и сказал царю: мир! и поклонился царю лицем своим до земли, и сказал: благословен Господь, Бог твой, Который предал людей, подъявших руки свои на господина моего царя.	28 And the king called to Ahimaaz, and said to him, Have you come in peace? 32 И сказал царь Хусию: благополучен ли отрок Авессалом? и сказал Хусий: да будет с врагами, господина моего, царя, и со всеми, которые восстают против тебя, подобное зло, какое постигло отрока.	32 And the king said to Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, Let your enemies, my lord the king, and all who rise up against you for evil be as that young man is.
33 Тогда возмутился царь, и взошел на горницу, что над воротами, и плакал, и так говорил, идя: сын мой, Авессалом? сын мой, сын мой Авессалом! О, если бы я умер вместо тебя, Авессалом, сын мой, сын мой!	33 And the king was overcome, and went up to his bedchamber and wept; and as he wept, he said, O my son Absalom. my son, my son Absalom! Would that I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son!
